Hi, I'm Katie and I opened Enlightenment

Counselling Services as a way to support people and

guide them in gaining insights that can be used to improve

their quality of life. I am drawn towards working with people

who are experiencing challenges with emotions such as stress,

anxiety, sadness, or anger, as well as those experiencing

challenges with their self-esteem or interpersonal relationships.

 

It is my priority to ensure that the therapeutic environment

feels safe and supportive. To do this I like to get to know

my clients on a personal level to form authentic connections.

It is a privilege to be able to support people through

challenges but also to join them in experiencing positive

emotions and laughter. It is also important to me to ensure

that the therapeutic process is personal and meaningful for each client. As such I use an eclectic approach so that I can best meet the needs of each unique individual. I draw from cognitive behavioral, solution focused, narrative, and emotionally focused approaches. In general my approach is very strength focused as I believe that everyone is capable of facing challenges, solving problems, and improving relationships once they understand their experiences and have access to helpful resources.

I am a Registered Counselling Therapist (RCT) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists. I received my Bachelor of Arts with a Specialization in Psychology from the University of Ottawa and my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.
